Sunday Recap: Weim and Wine by Katie

After a good night of sleep, I felt ready and raring to go on Sunday and started the day with a trip to the gym for some running and light lifting.  I had to be back in time to watch the Denver Bronco’s game with John.  He doesn’t have any cable at his house so this required us to go out… again.  We went to Sloan’s so we could eat brunch while watching the game (they start at 1 PM east coast so 11 AM here).  I had a vegetarian eggs Benedict including tomatoes and avocado, with the Hollandaise on the side.

The homefries were good, the Benedict was just okay: the English muffin wasn’t toasted!  Why do English muffins taste good only when toasted?  I also had one of these:

After the game ended in a sad way, we hit up Goodwill, Savers, and Wal-Mart in search of appropriate attire for the Weim and Wine party (support Weimaraner dogs and drink wine while wearing ridiculous sweaters).  The result:

John looks like a child in his snoman/candy cane turtleneck.  I was hoping to find a more ridiculous sweater with appliques but I did like my jingle bell earrings!  I must say, these are really unflattering pictures of both of us. Yikes, need a real camera ASAP.

The party was hosted by John’s coworker, Robin, and the spread was awesome! It would have made for GREAT food blog food porn if not for really low lighting and a whole lot of people I’ve never met.  The appetizers included:

  • Baked brie- fave!!
  • Sliced just-grilled steak
  • Bacon wrapped chicken
  • Lots of cheeses
  • Candy-cane caramel popcorn
  • Crudites and dip
  • Mini cheese balls- fantastic idea
  • Apple, onion, goat cheese pizza
  • Tortellini, olive, and pepperoni stacked on toothpicks
  • Mozzarella, basil, and cherry tomato drizzled in balsamic on toothpicks (I thought both toothpick ideas were creative)
  • White bean dip with bread rounds
  • Stuffed dates
  • Mini cupcakes- I tried what I think was a spiced cake with cream cheese frosting
  • Decorated sugar cookies
  • Mini fruit tarts
  • Apple slices with peanut butter and chocolate

I think that covers it although I could be missing something. They recently moved into their house and it was decorated so well already!  Between eating, conversing, keeping the dog away from the food, and touring the house, I tried a sample of pinot noir, chardonnay (x2), and prosseco.  Clearly the hosts know how to throw a great party! I did have a bit of a food hangover this morning but I agree with this post on Kath Eats, especially because I am missing most parties by Denver friends and Robin was a fabulous cook.

Once I felt better, I enjoyed a egg sandwich on wheat with a Laughing Cow wedge.

I didn’t pack a lunch so we’ll see what happens.  Have a great Monday!

I wish I could find more health benefits from brie covered in jam and wrapped in pastry so I could incorporate it daily ;-)!
